The first day of our trip to Wasaga Beach was our day of playing
Joe/Jane Tourist. We headed to Niagara Falls to enjoy the beautiful
sites but when we got across to the Canadian Border, our hotel
wasn't where it was suppose to be. Since international law
does not require hotel relocation notification, we had to locate
it ourselves. So, we parked all our Vette beauties and analyzed
the situation. Once our analysis was complete, we realized
they didn't relocate the hotel but in fact we had made a right
turn instead of a left. We then drove our nine Corvettes back
to the town in hopes the local folks would view us as a Parade
rather then a large group of lost Americans. The Parade was
a success judging by the many looks that we got as we drove
to the hotel. The location of the hotel was ideal and was within
walking distance to the beautiful falls, Skylon Tower as well
as the Casino.
Friday
Up early for breakfast and sight seeing before heading out
for Wasaga Beach. Some of the group took the tour Behind the
Falls and some went to view Queen Victoria Park. We then all
met at the hotel mid-afternoon and left for Wasaga Beach.
When we arrived at Wasaga Beach, we found what appeared to
be an ocean resort. The view of the beach looked similar to
that found at the shore with the exception of lake-sized waves
in what appeared to be an ocean of water.
After registration, we started on our first fun filled event
the "funkhana". This event was composed of five timed
tasks that turned full-grown adults into fun loving kids...
Task 1: Banking a pool ball around four empty beer bottles
up a raised ramp and into the hole. (Timed)
Task 2: Dunking a weenie tied around your waste into a narrow
mouth bottle. (Timed)
Task 3: Sinking a golf ball up a 6-foot long inclined hole.
(Timed)
Task 4: Shooting three darts for the lowest score.
Task 5: Carrying a hard-boiled head on a spoon over a pre-outlined
multi-floor specified course. (Timed)
Task 6: Chewing two crackers and then chewing bubble gum to
blow a bubble. (Timed)
The Wasaga Beach Corvette Club hosted a hospitality night
at Banana’s (local bar) right on the beach. They provided
food, drinks, music, and trivia games. The DJ awarded prizes
(even if you did not know the answer). It was a really great
time to meet the other Corvette participants. Everyone seemed
in awe that people traveled all the way from New Jersey to
attend this event!
Saturday
Today included a fun run of over 70-km with over 200 Corvettes.
We went through several towns as well as unpopulated areas
through the beautiful roads surrounding the Huron Lake area.
Scenery was beyond belief. When we reached our destination,
the Vettes made a 180-degree turn back on the highway, providing
a beautiful parade of Vettes on both sides of the highway.
Sunday
The last day of the event included a complete car show with
an expected 500-600 Corvettes. Both the Hetman's and the Leppien's
entered their Corvettes. Although no trophies were had for
the Vettes entered, the Club did get a trophy for the longest
distance traveled. We were also treated like Ambassadors and
were asked to be an extension of the Wasaga Beach Corvette
Club.
All in all it was fun filled time for all with beautiful Vettes
galore...
Two couples from the Wasaga Beach Corvette Club were planning
on attending Carlisle.
They did show up and even brought us pins and pennants from
the Town of Wasaga.
We all had a really great time and met wonderful new friends!
